Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga for Building and Sustaining a Postpartum Care Practice

Christine Eck and Corinne Andrews engaged in a rich discussion about the integration of prenatal and postnatal yoga with Ayurvedic postpartum care. Corinne emphasized the importance of continuity in care, highlighting the need to support mothers from conception through the postpartum period and beyond. She shared her perspective that postpartum care is not limited to the first year, but rather extends throughout a mother's life, as she navigates the different stages of parenthood.

Corinne described her approach to teaching prenatal and postnatal yoga, which involves creating a safe and supportive space for participants to share openly and vulnerably. She underscored the emotional and physical challenges faced by mothers, and the vital role that community and belonging play in the healing process. Corinne's classes aim to provide a sanctuary where women can be seen, heard, and honored, as they navigate the transformative journey of pregnancy, birth, and parenthood.

The conversation also delved into the importance of alignment, breathwork, and spiritual connection within yoga practices. Corinne emphasized the need for stability, strength, and containment, rather than an overemphasis on flexibility. She shared practical exercises and techniques that help mothers reconnect with their pelvic floor, core, and overall bodily awareness. Ultimately, the discussion highlighted the need for comprehensive, nourishing care that supports mothers throughout their journey, fostering a sense of empowerment, resilience, and deep self-understanding.
